Why choose Craig …

Craig-14.jpg

Being a 4th-generation High Riverite - High River is where my roots run deep. I wear my heart on my shirt sleeve for this Town and will always defend its integrity. Never flawless, but my passion is always apparent, and decisions are made for the greater good of the community.

My wife, Lindsay, and I own Lyle Reeves Funerals Inc., located in downtown High River. We have 2 children - Oren, 10, and Elle, 5. High River is our home, our business and our life. If we are not in High River, we are probably at hockey, lacrosse, dance, scouts …. or hopefully fishing.

The forward momentum that High River has right now must continue. We need to continue with a strong council that will make the right decisions for our community.

In the office, the Mayor’s role is to lead council, giving everyone an equal voice at the table and to make sure everyone understands exactly what is being voted on. The Mayor holds the same single vote as each Councillor. The Mayor does not make the decisions - Council does. The main role that the Mayor & Council play in the community is to ensure that all decisions are made for the greater good of our community.

My first priority is taking care of the existing residents and businesses. Showing that we are properly taking care of those who are here is what makes our community an attractive place for new residents to raise a family, retire or open their business.

Council cannot be all things, to all people, all of the time. It takes a group of 7 strong community leaders to make the difficult decisions. Community leadership is the role of all members of Council, not just the Mayor.

A Strong Leader is driven by his passion for the community, not the position.

Past Councillor Endorsements

As a Council member elected in 2021, I entered the municipal government world with a better understanding of what was required thanks to the investment of time from Craig Snodgrass. Through our term together, I found his leadership to be straightforward, engaged and curious. While decisions are required to be made for the interests of the community, Mayor Snodgrass has never lost his curiosity and willingness to explore the issue when and if new information was presented.

His dedication to High River is absolute and he is respected for being informed and works hard both in front of the community and with other groups to best represent High River. His work on advocacy regarding the Eastern Slopes and coal mining industry concerns is unwavering and forward thinking for future generations. Jurisdiction challenges did not allow for greater involvement with regards to the proposed Biodigestor, however, Mayor Snodgrass was invested in understanding the complexity of that proposal and through his work, and ensured that High River had a seat at the table for the hearings and appeal as an arbiter for the process and ensured the Town of High River had a voice that was heard.

He runs a successful business in High River, he is an engaged member of the community and balances his work, family and mayoral duties with proficiency and experience. My experience as a Councillor with the Mayor has been met with respect, openness and the tough conversations that happen have been centered on the health of our community. He is the first to admit when a course correction is required or an error made and I was held to a professional standard and supported in the decisions we made as a collective team at the council table. We could agree to disagree and once the decision was made, we moved forward.

My service to the Town of High River was an honour and something I did not take for granted. I have the same sense of service and duty from our Mayor and have no hesitation to offer my support to Craig Snodgrass. Leadership means looking at the big picture for the betterment of the community as a whole, facing the hard decisions and acting on them. In his multiple terms of service Craig Snodgrass has shown up, shouldered the work and our community has rebuilt, grown and will continue to thrive with him at the helm.

Respectfully submitted by Kelly Smit - Town of High River Councillor - Oct 2021-January 2025.

Since first being elected in 2013, Craig has shown an exceptional understanding of our community, guiding us from the challenges of the 2013 disaster to the vibrant and enviable town we enjoy today. His forward-looking vision for High River, combined with a focus on the positive, has inspired and guided both council and administration. Craig’s strong relationships with other levels of government and neighboring communities, his deep understanding of municipal responsibilities, and his unwavering integrity have helped ensure that High River remains a prosperous, safe, and highly desirable place to live.

2017 - 2025 Councillor Jamie Kinghorn

I fully support Craig's re-election to a fourth term as mayor.

Craig's leadership style is respectful, strong and clear.  He gets to the point in public comments, listens to other opinions and studies issues closely. During my two terms on council from 2013-2021, Craig and I didn't always agree on decisions. But we always respected each other. Craig's love for High River, his involevent in the community and his steadfast  faith in its future make him the right person to serve as mayor. Craig also is a person of vision, able to look beyond town boundaries at issues such as Eastern Slopes coal mining that threaten High River and other downstream municipalities, livelihoods, wildlife and water.

Anyone who believes other levels of government should be trusted to do the right thing on any issue without input from affected municipalities must live in an alternate universe.

2013 - 2021 Councillor Bruce Masterman

“I very much enjoyed being part of the Council team with Craig Snodgrass as Mayor from 2013 to 2021. Craig has proven to be a REAL LEADER who is hard-working and passionate about making High River a better place where residents can enjoy a higher quality of life. He has consistently amazed me with his ability to make tough decisions, to do what is right, and his clear sense of what our community needs.”

2007 - 2021 Councillor Don Moore
