Flood Mitigation

2013 was hell. We knew the rebuild was not going to be easy but our commitment to the safety & security of High River was priority one. Today, High River is one of the most well-protected communities in Canada from flood risk.

The image shows the current protection should a flood of the same magnitude as 2013 (1840 cms) were to arrive again. With the added protection we built in, mitigation computer modelling of our current infrastructure was tested to show High River is now protected to over 3000 cms.

Along with our administration, your past councils had the political will, and the community had the determination to make this happen. There is no question that this is our community’s greatest success coming out of 2013. With over $280 million invested in mitigation, and all of us working together, we defied the odds.
